According to the Regulations regarding the procedure for the award of a doctoral degree (doktor i.e. PhD) at the Krakow University of Economics, a person applying for the award of a doctoral degree in extramural mode shall submit to the Council for Academic Discipline an appliaction for the appointment of:
- a supervisor, or
- supervisors , or
- supervisor and assistant supervisor.
The supervisor may be a person holding at least the degree of doktor habilitowany (post-doctoral degree), and the assistant supervisor may be a person holding at least a degree of doktor (PhD). A supervisor may be a person who does not fulfil the above specified conditions and who is an employee of a foreign university or scientific institution, if the Discipline Council decides that the person has significant achievements in the field of scientific issues to which the doctoral thesis relates. A person may not become a supervisor if, within the last 5 years:
1) was the supervisor of four doctoral students of the KUE Doctoral School who were struck off the list of doctoral students due to a negative result of their mid-term evaluation, or
2) supervised the preparation of a doctoral dissertation by at least 2 persons applying for a doctoral degree who did not receive positive reviews from at least two reviewers.
The doctoral dissertation may be prepared within the following academic disciplines:
- economics and finance,
- social and economic geography and spatial management,
- political science and administration,
- law,
- management and quality sciences.
In order to apply for the appointment of the promoter(s) you must:
1. approve the information clause (RODO),
2. confirm that they have read the Regulations regarding the procedure for the award of a doctoral degree (doktor i.e. PhD) at the Krakow University of Economics,
3. provide the necessary personal data in the IRK form,
4. indicate the scientific discipline within which it is planned to prepare a doctoral dissertation
5. attach the following documents:
a. a scan of the application for appointment of supervisor(s) - FORM
b. preliminary concept of the doctoral dissertation - TEMPLATE
c. agreement(s) to act as a supervisor/assistant supervisor - FORM_SUPERVISOR, FORM_ASSISTANT_SUPERVISOR
d. a scan of the diploma for the award of a Master's degree, Master of Engineering or equivalent degree or, if the candidate has not been issued with a copy of the relevant diploma, a certificate of completion of studies and award of a Master's degree, Master of Engineering or equivalent degree and, in the case of completion of studies abroad:
- a scan of a legalised or apostille-embossed diploma or other document of graduation from studies abroad conferring the right to apply for the award of a doctoral degree in the country in whose system of higher education the higher education institution which issued it operates, or recognised as equivalent to a Polish diploma of graduation from a second-cycle study or a uniform master's study and a professional title of magister or magister inżynier: on the basis of an international agreement specifying equivalence or through a nostrification procedure, on the basis of an issued certificate,
- for a diploma awarded by a higher education institution of a Member State of the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) or the European Free Trade Association (European Economic Area - EFTA) attesting the successful completion of: a second-cycle programme of study; or a four-year or more uniform programme of study in the country of origin where it is regarded as equivalent to a second-cycle programme of study in the country of origin,
- in the case of documents certifying the completion of higher education studies abroad which are in a language other than English or Polish, it is additionally required to present a certified translation of the document into Polish or English.
